Episode 1 – Taiwan
In the stolid city of Taipei, the motion picture industry produces a steady output of films to entertain more than 20 million people who live on the island.
History plays an important part in films, with the story of China’s united stand against the Japanese invasion of the mainland a favourite theme. The Dream Merchants of Taiwan weave spells that appeal to audiences, both here and in other Chinese speaking countries.

Episode 2 – India
Since the 1950s, the Indian film industry has been the biggest in the world, and some 30 per cent of its production comes from studios located in Mumbai, which is often referred to as Bollywood.
The Dream Merchants of India provide their audiences with the cinematic ingredients they want – star names, romance, songs, dances, sex and plenty of action. It is often the people’s escape from the anxieties of poverty, boredom and the heat. A dreamland that is far more attractive than the reality of India.

Episode 3 – Japan
Tokyo is more than just a town that grew incredibly large it has become a fantastic machine-environment in which living takes on new dimensions.
Like most countries, Japan has a movie market dominated by young audiences whose tastes run to action and adventure fantasy.

Episode 4 - Hong Kong
Despite its apparent cosmopolitan society, Hong Kong remains deeply Chinese. The Dream Merchants know that their audience prefer local movies to the Western imports. The action-packed movies of Jackie Chan are particularly popular with local audiences and around the world. Movie going in Hong Kong is a mass pastime.
Until television was introduced in 1967 companies like Shaw Brothers and Golden Harvest dominated the Hong Kong film industry. Television gave birth to new and untried talents of young directors such as Anne Hui, Tsui Hark and Johnny Mak.
